Social workers support individuals and families to improve well-being and build resilience. Our social work services often involve benefit and housing advocacy, increasing social connections, parenting support, employment preparation, refugee resettlement, and supporting children in schools. Social workers often liaise with other agencies such to assist clients in accomplishing their goals. Our social work services are free to all clients.

Seasons for Growth Programme

Seasons for Growth is an age appropriate programme for children, young people and adults. It helps participants to explore the effects of loss and grief associated with experiences such as family break up, bereavement, relocation, redundancy, illness and more.

We offer companioning and training for people interested in becoming a Seasons for Growth companion.

Hospital Chaplaincy

Hospital chaplains provide support for patients, relatives and hospital staff.  We have Catholic Chaplains in all hospitals. Chaplains are there to listen, to hold your hand, to bring the Sacraments or to be a comforting presence when loved ones are in hospital.  Chaplains are there to celebrate life with you as well as to journey with you as you enter that place of everlasting life.

Prison Chaplaincy

 There is a Catholic prison chaplain in all New Zealand public prisons. Traditionally this service was carried out by priests but now it includes religious sisters and brothers and lay chaplains. The service is supported in full by the New Zealand Catholic Bishops and the Department of Corrections, and works along side other Christian chaplain groups.

Game On

We offer parenting courses for men, by men. Game On supports men in their relationships, primarily with their children. Space to discuss topics in depth helps men to access the information and skills they hold and make change in their own lives. These changes in turn have a positive benefit for their children.

Women’s Friendship Project

This project includes connecting women from migrant and refugee communities, who meet with locally-connected women to share our common ground, celebrate our diversity and offer companionship.

Refugee Resettlement

We collaborate with the Red Cross, Catholic and other community groups in the Wellington area to provide household goods and pantry packs to welcome people arriving in Aotearoa New Zealand through refugee pathways.

This is a volunteer run programme.

Community Facilitation

We support Parish, School and community groups to work safely with, and advocate for people who are vulnerable, and to respond to poverty, inequity and injustice in their wider community. CSS provides coaching, and support with the development of community led projects. CSS also supports the Archdiocesan Ecology, Justice and Peace Commission in it’s advocacy work, especially in the areas of integral ecology, poverty and bi-cultural relationships
